Login and Registration Issues
Why can I not see the forum boards?
You must be both registered on our website and logged in before you can view and post on the forum boards. Links to create an account on our website and to log in are provided along the top of the page.
Why do I get logged off automatically?
If you do not check the Remember Me box when you log in, you will only remain logged in for a preset time. This prevents misuse of your account by anyone else. To stay logged in, check the box when you log in. This is not recommended if you access the website from a shared computer, e.g. library, internet cafe, etc.
In addition, if your IP address changes while you are logged in, you will be automatically logged off. This may cause you problems especially if you are trying to use this website from a location such as a school computer lab or internet cafe which uses dynamic IP addresses during sessions.
How do I prevent my user name from appearing in the online user listings?
In your forum settings you will find an option called Hide your online status; if you switch this on you'll only appear to board administrators or to yourself. You will be counted as a hidden user.
I've lost my password!
Follow the directions on the Lost Password Recovery page to reset your password. You can find a link to this page along the top of this page.
I registered but cannot log in!
First check that you are entering the correct username and password. Remember that your password is case-sensitive. If that doesn't work, use the Lost Password Retrieval page to reset your password.

User Settings
How do I change my settings?
To alter your forum settings, click the Forum Settings link along the top of the page. This will allow you to change all of your forum settings. The settings on that page apply to the forum only; to change more general options for your account, click on the My Account link along the top of the page.
The times are not correct!
You need to adjust your time zone setting. Go to the My Account page linked to from along the top of the page for further instructions.
I changed the time zone and the time is still wrong!
If you are sure you have set the time zone correctly and the time is still incorrect, the most likely answer is that Daylight-Saving Time (or Summer Time as it is known in the UK and other places) is active. The forum is not designed to handle the change-overs between standard and daylight time so during summer months you may need to manually adjust your time zone setting one hour in order to compensate.
How do I show an image below my user name?
There may be two images below a user name when viewing posts. The first is an image associated with your rank; this is set by the administrators and you cannot change it. Below this may be a larger image known as an avatar; this is generally unique or personal to each user. To set or change your avatar, go to the Forum Settings page (a link to it appears along the top of the page).
How do I change my rank?
You cannot change your rank directly. If you think it is incorrect, talk to a team officer to see if it needs to be changed.

Posting Issues
How do I post a topic on a board?
First choose the board from the forum index page. Next, click on the New Topic button on that board's page. In some cases, you may not be able to post new topics on certain boards due to permissions in effect on those boards.
How do I edit or delete a post?
You can edit your own posts by clicking the edit button for the relevant post. You cannot delete your own posts. Instead, you can edit the post and remove all the text from it.
How do I add a signature to my post?
To add a signature to a post you must first create one; this is done via the Forum Settings page. Once created, you can check the Add Signature box on the posting form to add your signature. You can also add a signature by default to all your posts by checking the appropriate option in your Forum Settings. You can still prevent a signature being added to individual posts by un-checking the add signature box on the posting form.
How do I create a poll?
When you post a new topic (or edit the first post of a topic) you should see a Add Poll form below the main posting box. If you cannot see this then you probably do not have necessary permissions to create polls. You should enter a title for the poll and then at least two options -- to set an option type in the poll question and click the Add option button. You can also set a time limit for the poll, 0 being an infinite amount. There will be a limit to the number of options you can list, which is set by the administrators.
How do I edit or delete a poll?
As with posts, polls can only be edited by the original poster, a moderator, or board administrator. To edit a poll, click the first post in the topic, which always has the poll associated with it. If no one has cast a vote, then users can delete the poll or edit any poll option. However, if people have already placed votes only moderators or administrators can edit or delete it; this is to prevent people rigging polls by changing options mid-way through a poll.
Why can't I vote in polls?
If you cannot vote, you probably do not have appropriate access rights on the board in which the poll is posted.
Why can't I access a particular board?
Some boards are limited to certain users or groups.

Formatting and Topic Types
What is BBCode?
BBCode is a special implementation of HTML. BBCode itself is similar in style to HTML: tags are enclosed in square braces [ and ] rather than < and > and it offers greater control over what and how something is displayed. There are options when you create a new post or private message to create BBCode tags. Even with this you may find the following guide useful. Note that you also have the option to disable BBCode in a particular message you create should you desire to do so.
Can I use HTML?
No. Raw HTML tags are not allowed and will instead be displayed literally.
What are Smilies?
Smilies, or Emoticons, are small graphical images which can be used to express some feeling using a short code, e.g. :) means happy, :( means sad. The full list of emoticons can be seen via the posting form. Try not to overuse smileys, though, as they can quickly render a post unreadable and a moderator may decide to edit them out or remove the post altogether.
Can I post Images?
Images can indeed be shown in your posts. However, there is no facility at present for uploading images directly to this forum. Therefore you must link to an image stored on a publicly accessible web server, e.g. http://www.example.com/my-picture.gif. You cannot link to pictures stored on your own PC (unless it is a publicly accessible server) nor to images stored behind authentication mechanisms such as Hotmail or Yahoo mailboxes, password-protected sites, etc. To display the image use either the BBCode [img] tag.
What are Announcements?
Announcements often contain important information and you should read them as soon as possible. Announcements appear at the top of every page in the board to which they are posted.
What are Sticky topics?
Sticky topics appear below any announcements in the board topic listing and only on the first page. They are often quite important so you should read them where possible.
What are Locked topics?
Locked topics are set this way by either the forum moderator or board administrator. You cannot reply to locked topics and any poll contained inside is automatically ended. Topics may be locked for many reasons.
What does it mean that a topic or post was Trashed?
A Trashed topic or post has been moved to an invivible forum board and is no longer available. Topics and posts are not deleted outright by moderators, instead they move any topics or posts that would otherwise be deleted to the trash board. Trashed topics and posts are preserved and may be reviewed by administrators in the future to determine if any users should be punished for content posted in those topics.

User Levels and Groups
What are Administrators?
Administrators are people assigned the highest level of control over the entire board. These people can control all facets of board operation which include setting permissions, banning users, creating usergroups or moderators, etc. They also have full moderator capabilities in all the forums.
What are Moderators?
Moderators are individuals whose job it is to look after the running of the forums from day to day. They have the power to edit or trash posts and lock, unlock, move, delete and split topics in the boards they moderate. Generally moderators are there to prevent people going off-topic or posting abusive or offensive material.
What are Usergroups?
Usergroups are a way in which board administrators can group users together in order to assign special permissions to them. Each user can belong to several groups and each group can be assigned different access rights. This makes it easy for administrators to set up several users as moderators of a forum, or to give them access to a private forum, etc.
Can I join a Usergroup?
Most often the answer to this is no. Usergroups are managed by the administrators in order to facilitate the operations of the forum and practically all usergroups have pre-defined functions based on thier roles. If you are to be added to a special usergroup, it will be done for you when warranted by an administrator.
Private Messaging
I cannot send private messages!
There are three reasons for this; you are not registered and/or not logged on, the board administrator has disabled private messaging for the entire board, or the board administrator has prevented you individually from sending messages. If it is the latter case you should try asking an administrator why.
I cannot receive private messages!
Most likely the reason for this is that your inbox is full. Delete some older messages from your inbox and then you should be able to receive new ones. There is an indicator on the inbox page which shows you how close you are to the limit of private messages you can keep in your inbox.
I am getting unwanted or abusive private messages!
Please contact an administrator -- they have the power to prevent a user from sending private messages at all.

Attachments
How do I add an attachment?
You can add attachments when you post a new post. You should see a Add an Attachment form below the main posting box. When you click the Browse... button the standard Open dialogue window for your computer will open. Browse to the file you want to attach, select it and click OK, Open or doubleclick according to your liking and/or the correct procedure for your computer. If you choose to add a comment in the File Comment field this comment will be used as a link to the attached file. If you haven't added a comment the filename itself will be used to link to the attachment. If the board administrator has allowed it you will be able to upload multiple attachements by following the same procedure as described above until you reach the max allowed number of attachments for each post.

The board administrator sets an upper limit for filesize, defined file extensions and other things for attachments on the board. Be aware that it's your responsiblity that your attachments comply with the Terms of Use and that they may be deleted without warning.

Please note that the administrator or moderators cannot and will not take responsibility for any loss of data.

Why isn't my attachment visible in the post?
Most probably the file or Extension is no longer allowed on the forum, or a moderator or administrator has deleted it for being in conflict with the Terms of Use.
Why can't I add attachments?
On some boards, adding attachments may be limited to certain users or groups.
I've got the necessary permissions, why can't I add attachments?
The administrators set an upper limit for file size, file extensions and other things for attachments on a board. A moderator or administrator may have altered your permissions, or discontinued attachments in the specific board. You should get an explanation in the error message when trying to add an attachment; if not you might consider contacting a moderator or administrator.
